Dramatic Play House Area As the name implies, the house corner is the area of the classroom dedicated to "playing house." The work children do in the house corner is called dramatic play, pretend play, or make-believe: children take on a role and create imaginative situations. Although dramatic play frequently reflects the familiar home environment, it also allows children to act out roles of real and imaginary characters. Children develop many new skills from their dramatic play. They learn about themselves, their families, and society around them. They learn to judge and select relevant information to enact play episodes. Children also learn from one another as they interact socially in dramatic play. They ask and answer questions and work together to solve problems. They develop the ability to concentrate as they remain in the same play themes for increasing periods of time. |
